ABOUT JODI
I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist in the state of California. I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Iowa and my master’s degree in Marriage & Family Therapy from the University of San Diego’s School of Leadership and Education Sciences. My clinical training began at the V.A. San Diego Healthcare System where I provided individual, couple and group therapy to veterans and their families.
Following graduation, I returned to the V.A. and collaborated with the director of the Family Mental Health Program to establish a Saturday clinic where I provided couples counseling to veterans and their partners for several years before opening a private practice of my own. In addition to my work with veterans, I worked with active duty service members at Aurora Behavioral Healthcare for several years within their intensive inpatient program. I then broadened my scope at Kaiser Permanente where I worked in a collaborative environment conducting diagnostic intakes and providing individual therapy for over 6 years. While there, I also facilitated several groups; Emotional Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Codependency. I then left Kaiser to allow more time to dedicate to my private practice located in central San Diego (Hillcrest) where I am currently accepting new clients. Whether I'm working with individuals or couples, I strive to help each person I work with reach a higher level of satisfaction in their interpersonal relationships.
Because my passion is helping people acquire healthier and happier relationships and lives, I've pursued advanced training in the model of Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) and received mentorship by some of the top trainers in the model. Over the years, I've assisted with, and presented at Hold Me Tight workshops on the topics of forgiveness and healing attachment injuries. Additionally, I was asked to return to USD to present to grad students on the topic of Codependency. In 2018, I discovered and immediately fell in love with the model of Accelerated Experiential Dynamic Psychotherapy (AEDP) after attending an Immersion training with the founder, Dr. Diana Fosha. My experience of this initial training was transformative, locking me in fully to my love and commitment to this experientially and attachment informed and emotionally based approach. I have since become formally certified in the model of AEDP, but I will continue to attend trainings to further my knowledge for as long as I am practicing. I believe strongly in continued education, and I strive to further my clinical skills by frequently attending seminars and trainings so that I can provide the best possible therapeutic service to you.
